When: Whole of May with Santacruzan on the last Sunday (27th May 2012)
Where: Philippines

Flores De Mayo (Flowers of May) in the Philippines is famous for its colour, beauty and floral parades.

Throughout the month of May, young girls decorate statues of the Virgin Mary with flowers such as ilang-ilang, hibiscus and frangipani, and sprinkle petals in the churches and streets. The air is literally filled with the scent of flowers and there is much dancing and merry making before the rains set in.

The highlight of the celebration, is the Santacruzan, the parade on the last Sunday of the festival where beautiful girls (and sometimes beautiful men too!) dress as biblical or historical characters and famous queens to commemorate the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena (the mother of Constantine the Great).
