El Colacho

The baby jumping festival!

SPAIN EL COLACHO

When: Sunday following Corpus Christi, June 10th 2012, June 2nd 2013.
Where: Castrillo de Murcia, Spain.

This famously bizarre event in Castrillo de Murcia, Spain sees  men dressed as the Devil leaping over a row of babies in order to cleanse them and take away their evil!

For some unknown reason, the brotherhood of Santísimo Sacramento de Minerva (the people who organise the celebrations) also chase and terrorise everybody in the town throughout the day.

The Catholic festival of Corpus Christi is celebrated all over Spain with processions, mystery plays and a wide variety of popular celebrations, but this one has to be the strangest. It is held on the Sunday after Corpus Christi.

Spanish Food & Drink

Food and drink are a way of life in Spain. The Spanish eat late, you won’t see many restaurants even open before 9pm and they are at their busiest between 11pm and midnight. Pick at tasty Spanish tapas, drink Sangria or a good Spanish Rioja.
