Every year the historical Mediterranean town of Tarquinia commemorates the knighting of three local nobles in 1452. The Giostra Delle Contrade, involves knights on horseback, medieval dances and banquets, plus equestrian games.
The seven local districts compete against each other in a competition involving rings suspended on a statue, where participating “knights” must ride at speed attempting to remove the rings with their lances.
Actual dates are not publicised early, so keep an eye on the Tarquinia Tourism website.
